Marley & Me

True companionship is rarely experienced. The bond between a man and a dog is built on unconditional love. Which is good for a free-spirited dog like Marley. Holding to his namesake of artist Bob Marley this hound has a love knows no bounds. Life is a struggle with ourselves, accepting our own mortality. This film shows that family extends beyond humans and embraces all life.

John Grogan (Owen Wilson) is unsure what he wants out of life, but he knows what he has is good. After marrying Jenny (Jennifer Aniston) he hope to stall her "biological clock" by buying her a Labrador. In his mind it's better to be a 'master' than a 'father'. But he soon realizes that life doesn't stop and puppy's become dogs.

Adapted from the autobiography of journalist John Grogan the film find nuzzles it way into your heart. Life never turns out the way we plan. But as Jenny says, "I've given up so much of what made me who I am." But, it's a matter of accepting the choices that make-up our life. Love is able accept the good and the bad. That's why Marley and Me makes for a classic family film. It shows that life is simply the day in/day out and that time is relative.

The Agonist - Lullabies for the Dormant Mind

Like a cornucopia Montreal scene continues to provide. Metal darling The Agonist releases its sophomore album to attentive ears, who only found the band after the eyes spotted female vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. This beautiful barking bitch is declared in 2007 as one of the "Hottest Chicks in Metal" by Revolver magazine, she's definitely a head turner.

Putting aside lesbian fantasies of Angela Gassow and Amy Lee hooking up, the outfit is a heavenly cross between Arch Enemy and Evanesence. Alissa soars beyond Amy Lee her predecessors ranges, listen to the a capella song 'Swan Lake'. But, stands toe to toe with Mistress Gassow.

The band is not obscured by the singers shadow. Songs boarder on being riff-salads, but catchy hooks and dips keep it fresh. Through breakdowns and solos each members displays his talent in full. If 'Birds Elope with the Sun' rises the guitars to the sky, then 'When the Bough Breaks' brings them to a crushing fall.

The album imagery hearkens to chilling winters of the northern wold of Canada. 'Waiting out the Winter' expresses the true harshness of the long and terrible season. However, the technical precision and layered vocals leaves one to wonder they can hold up live.

The Agonist will open for The Haunted at the Opera House this April 15th. Before them is another female fronted act BloodShotEye from Leamington in southern Ontario. JessicKa can bark like the best and has the body to boot. May the metal wenches rise!
